How To Choose The Right
Online
Commodity Future Broker

An online commodity future broker provides a wealth of information for the new as well as the veteran futures trader. They give out essential trading information, such as contract size, margin requirements, what type of orders can be placed with which commodity exchange.

Pick a commodity future broker that is right for your level of experience and the amount of trading capital you have available.

Which Online Commodity Future Broker's Service Is Right For You?

Full Service....Discount Service....Or Online Direct

Full Service

If you are new to online trading it would be wise to find a broker that provides full service. There are many aspects involved with mastering the terminology and the codes as well as placing the orders correctly. A full service broker is invaluable in helping the new trader become familiar with the basics. He will give you trading ideas and teach you how to enter your orders correctly.

Discount Broker
Once a commodity trader learns the basics of futures trading and becomes comfortable with all the terminology he may want to move to a discount broker. A discount futures broker will typically save you 30 to 50 % over the full service commodity futures. A trader who has some experience trading and can place his simple orders correctly can use a discount broker and save on commissions. You can still get trading ideas and he is ready to help you if your doing more complex orders such as spreads or bull option orders.

If your not totally familiar with trading he will keep you out of trouble. Incorrect order placement can cost a bundle, a good broker will make sure your orders are correct, before sending them to the pit.

Trade Online Direct
Once you have mastered order entry you can then place your orders online yourself. Online future brokers will save you money. But be sure you know how to enter those orders and please be sure there is broker back-up for those times when your computer is down or the online brokers site is down. It's rare, but it does happen and it's always at the worst possible time....better to be prepared....have an online broker that you can get on the phone anytime you need him.

How To Find The Right Online Commodity Futures Broker

Factors that you and your broker will use to determine your commission rate.

1) Experience level
2) Amount of capital in your account

If the online commodity futures broker figures that your level of experience is high, your commissions will be low. The reason is that the greater your level of experience the fewer times you will need to tie up his brokers asking questions and making mistakes that he will need to correct.

The amount of capital you have to trade with is a factor in the commissions you ultimately will pay. Generally the more you have in your account the lower the commission rate.

Always try to meet your broker face to face. I know sometimes this isn't practical, but you will always have a better relationship with a broker who you have met. If you cannot eyeball with him, be sure you have a phone conversation covering the way you plan to trade and enter orders. You must have a good rapport with him, it you are to have a on going profitable experience.

Whenever I am selecting a broker, whether I am planning to trade online or place my orders directly to the pit I want to know who I am dealing with. If a problem should arise, you then have a contact person with whom you can work it out. Sometimes you just need a bit of information, but whatever it is, if you have a good rapport things will go smoothly and you will be able to concentrate on making profitable trades.
